Emmanuelle Martial
Emmanuelle MARTIAL holds a PhD in Archaeology from the Université de Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne. An archaeologist and lithic specialist focusing on the Neolithic, she works at the Institut national de recherches archéologiques préventives (Inrap), the largest institution of its kind in France and one of the most significant in Europe. Since 1989, she has participated in or directed numerous field archaeology operations (excavations, assessments, surveys) and has studied a vast number of prehistoric and protohistoric chipped stone assemblages in the northwestern quarter of France. She also lectured at the Université de Lille for ten years. Affiliated with the Trajectoires. De la sédentarisation à l’État laboratory (UMR 8215, CNRS, Paris), she is involved in various collective, interdisciplinary, and multi-institutional research programs. Her pioneering work on the third millennium BCE in northern France, the characterization of lithic industries and siliceous raw materials, as well as plant exploitation for textile production, has been widely published.
